El
Paso Album Launch
Thursday September
11th saw the release of Frankie Lane's much awaited concept album,
"Gunsmoke at El Paso". The launch, at the Holiday Inn,
Pearse Street, brought out most of the guests from the album,
along with many well-wishers associated with Frankie's long and
varied career in the music business.
The trad crowd was represented by singer Eleanor Shanley, fiddlers
Paul O' Shaughnessy and Jacqui Martin, Ronan O' Snodaigh (Kila)
and Seamus and Seosaimhín Ní Bheaglaoich, as well
as some of his old musical buddies from The Fleadh Cowboys and
The One Eyed Rattlers. Comedian Jon Kenny, whose own career is
about to take off again with an upcoming nationwide tour, launched
the event with a flurry of wit.
It was obvious the album was eagerly awaited judging by the crowd
that turned up and the number of albums and t-shirts sold on the
night. The short but high powered musical taster by Frankie, Conor
Brady, Paul Kelly, Shane McGowan, Pearse Halpin, Paul Cantwell
and "The Double Oh Girls", Oona White and Caroline Kiernan,
gave us a sample of the quality we can expect from the album and
hopefully soon we will see the band on a stage big enough to give
justice to such a beautifully conceived musical extravaganza.
